Election Cost Estimates

The cost estimator tool is for local jurisdictions to calculate the cost of an election in consolidation with a countywide election.

Estimates are based on historical election information and voting participation combined with administrative costs of conducting an election under the California Voter's Choice Act and the County's voting system, Voting Solutions for All People. Estimates also factor in current labor costs which may fluctuate.

Election Cost Estimate Application

Things to consider when using the Election Cost Estimate Application:

  • The actual election factors of an election such as the number of jurisdictions participating, number of pages, and any required legislative changes may significantly impact the amount billed to participating jurisdictions.
  • The estimating rates are not fixed fees and will differ from the actual rates billed.
  • The prior estimating tool was based on a fee-based model that is no longer used.

Requests for Special Cost Estimates

If you are a local jurisdiction that is responsible for conducting and administering elections (e.g., city, school district, general district) that is in need of a cost estimate for a potential election:

  • that would not be consolidated with the statewide primary election in March or June or the statewide general election in November
  • or that must adhere to a special timeline such as a recall election or an election due to termination of a provisional appointment
  • or that would be conducted pursuant to Elections Code sections 1000(b), 1000(c), or 4000; Education Code 5091; or Government Code 1780 or 36512

Please submit correspondence, on your jurisdiction’s letterhead, that describes: 1) the date that you are targeting or that is legally required 2) the statutory or legal authority that allows for said date and 3) your request for a cost estimate.

Please ensure that your correspondence is signed by the appropriate official and address it to:
