What is the Community Voter Outreach Committee (CVOC)?

Beginning in 1998, Los Angeles County RR/CC invited community leaders, community-based organizations (CBOs), city clerks in Los Angeles County, disabled community advocates, political party representatives, and other interested individuals to attend CVOC meetings. The Committee has been effective in creating a partnership between the County and CBOs, providing better services to voters with specific needs, and communicating important election issues, such as provisional ballots, transliteration, and Touchscreen Voting.

What do we do?

Community partners have assisted Los Angeles County in the following projects:

  • 1-800 Hotline - utilize organization's hotline and work with RR/CC in assisting voters with questions regarding sample ballot booklets, vote locations and requesting multilingual language materials.
  • Current and upcoming issues - invite RR/CC staff to present new issues that will affect voters as a whole.
  • Newsletter – coordinate with community groups and publish newsletter to educate voters on election related issues.
  • Pollworker recruitment - recruit pollworkers in traditionally hard to recruit areas
  • Pollworker training - locate facilities and volunteers.
  • Voter education - staff booths at local events and activities to educate voters regarding voting procedures and the new voting methods, which include Touchscreen Voting.
  • Voter registration - promote and register citizens.
  • Current and upcoming issues - invite RR/CC staff to present new issues that will affect voters as a whole.

Currently, 120 organizations and 200 representatives regularly attend CVOC quarterly meeting. Under CVOC, 4 subcommittees (Election Day Troubleshooting Subcommittee, Multilingual Voters Outreach Subcommittee, Voters with Specific Needs Subcommittee, and Young Voters Outreach Subcommittee) have been established to extend the above mentioned community partnership efforts. If you or your group would like to get involved in the CVOC committee or its subcommittees, please contact:
