INMATE REGISTRATION AND VOTING Many inmates are not aware of the fact that they
may be eligible to register and vote in California elections. There
are issues on the election ballot that may affect inmates and their
families. Inmates are encouraged to exercise their voting rights
to express opinions on those issues. If you are an inmate in a Los Angeles County Jail and
want to register to vote, you must meet the following requirements:

Be a citizen of the United States;

Be a resident of Los Angeles County;

Be at least 18 years of age at the time of the next
election;

Have not been declared mentally incompetent
by a Court.
You may register to vote in elections
if you are an inmate:
- Awaiting or on trial for a criminal offense;
- Serving time for a traffic or misdemeanor offense;
- Serving time in a local jail as a condition of probation.
You may not register to vote in
elections if you are an inmate:
- Convicted of a felony offense and sentenced to serve
time in a State prison;
- On parole as a result of a felony conviction.
